Can dance be captured in a work of visual art?
How can a moving body or a moment be suspended in a painting?

Dance! An Exhibition of Movement in the Visual Arts 1880–2020

HAM, the Helsinki Art Museum looked for answers to these questions by exploring more than 140 works by 50 artists.

We wanted to bring movement into the exhibition’s graphic look as well. The lively free line and bolder composition resonate with the theme and space of the exhibition.

We based the appearance of the exhibition on the work we did while planning the essay collection Dance! – Writings on Dance and the Visual Arts.

The exhibition was curated by art and cultural historian Hanna-Reetta Schreck and HAM exhibition assistant Arttu Merimaa
